Our overall goal is to diversify and broaden participation in the scientific workforce by focusing on DNA-based applications for elementary and middle school students. By connecting with younger students, the project aims to engage student interest and prepare them to follow pathways to that can lead to basic research and associated applications of that research to address fundamentally important challenges. In order to meet our goal, we are partnering with New Mexico elementary and middle school teachers. Teacher experiences are meant to boost science knowledge and deliver a bioinformatics-based kit of interesting, engaging instructional materials.

This project is supported by a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) program award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
