MRSA in the NICU: Outbreak or Coincidence?

Students will use DNA sequence data to track cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Students will assess the relatedness of MRSA strains from throughout the hospital, and determine which ones are part of the NICU outbreak, and which ones are separate cases. Students will also discuss infection control strategies.

NOTE: students may need to learn and practice BLAST if they haven't already acquired this skill.
